Logitech G Cloud - Is It Worth It?

Written by Bibby // published 16th July 2025

The Logitech G Cloud launched in the US in October 2022 and into Europe in May 2023 -  and since then it has been chipping away at the handheld scene as “cloud streaming one” of the bunch. This is absolutely correct, and was marketed as such - but we’re here today to talk about why this machine is SO much more than just “that cloud streaming device”, and why it should continue to be in your hands in 2025.

What Can It Support?

Starting off with the obvious, this device was designed to be played over the internet. You can connect to cloud services like:

  • Xbox cloud gaming

  • Nvidia GeForce NOW

  • Steam Link

  • Playstation Remote play (Or PXPlay)

  • And probably a lot more that I don't use and isn’t on my radar.

Those systems are your bread and butter. I’d say 99% of your gaming habits will be taking place within those particular streaming services. Some of them require a subscription to be able to use the facilities, like Xbox Cloud gaming. You will need a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to be able to access the gaming library to be able stream from their systems to yours. Likewise with the Nvidia GeForce Now platform. You can use the FREE service, which is usable, but it cuts out after an hour and you have to relog back into the service and join the queue again - forcing you to think about buying either a performance or ultimate version of the subscription which varies in what you’re entitled to and the performance you will receive.

Steam link is completely free, as is the PlayStation Remote play feature. They have been a personal favourite of mine, and platforms I have frequently been using during my 2 month spell with this handheld. I will go on to say that playing The Division 2 on this thing has been nothing less than SENSATIONAL Being able to log into my PS5 from either the office, or just sat in the front room has been easy, quick and genuinely flawless. Could it have something to do with my 900 up/down connection at home, absolutely, but that is one of the reasons this device appealed to me, because I had the facilities to be able to use it to its maximum potential.

Specs

Now, onto the specs!

The unit itself is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor, and this also features 4GB LPDDR4X or ram, 64GB of UFS storage (which can be expanded by using an SD card. Trust me, you’ll want to do that and I will come on to why later on). A 6000mAh battery which roughly translates to 12+ hours of cloud gaming.

Of course, because you are going to be using this predominantly for cloud gaming, you don’t need to have all the latest and greatest tech inside the handheld, as you’ll be dialling into mega servers over the internet will be doing all of the heavy lifting for you, so demand on your console won’t be heavy! The unit also runs Android 11 and weighs around 463g, which is great for the longer sessions, and won’t feel like you’re carrying 4 cartons of eggs in your backpack when you’re taking it on the go with you!!

You’re getting a crisp 7-inch Full HD IPS 60Hz touchscreen here. Onboard stereo speakers, dual microphones with noise cancellation as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is AWESOME as i tend to use my Astro A03’s (now been superseded by the G333s, which we’re yet to review) when traveling about, as they just slip right into my bag taking little to no space up (Shout-out Logitech G!).

The buttons, analogue sticks as well as the triggers have the build quality you would come to expect from a Logitech product, sturdy and built to last. With the triggers featuring haptic technology, it makes the transition from the PS5 controller, to this unit being in the palm of my hands seamless. I put one down, pick up the other and i’m back tearing down agents in Washington D.C. - that’s what you pay your money for!

Your potential main gripe, and to be honest, in the UK it’s not something I feel is all that common, but the Logitech G Cloud DOES NOT feature SIM card support. Apart from other content creators, I have genuinely never come across someone who had taken out another SIM card contract to be able to play games on the go in the UK. People just tend to use their phones as a hot spot, as most contracts, at least in the last 4 years anyway, either give you huge amounts of data, or unlimited. You’re pretty much going to be guaranteed some form of WiFi connection if you’re out and about playing, but the hot spot connection has been amazing for me, using EE. Other providers are available, but I can't speak for their performance - apart from 02 which seems to be rubbish everywhere, especially in London!

3 more things I want to just touch on before we leave you today!

Docking and cooling

With this unit, you can use the USB-C port for big-screen gaming. That’s right, get a little convertor, or docking station and have the audio and picture signal be blown onto your TV or projector. This has been a lovely added bonus that I genuinely didn’t know about until i got home to test it. Hook up some wireless Xbox or PS controllers and you have everything you need to game in the front room (if your partner lets you, of course). One slight concern is i did have a SMALL amount of input lag from an official Xbox controller and not from a PS5 controller. I did only try that controller once, but it was enough for me to not bother using it again!

Second to last thing, there are no fans on this system. You might be thinking “BLIMEY BIBBY, WILL IT NOT GET HOT?!”. In response, I will say absolutely not! This unit does not get hot, it doesn’t make a sound and it won’t overheat, unless you’re sitting in a fire. The very fact that this unit is just cloud streaming, means that everything on the inside of it doesn’t get slammed into the ground at maximum usage. It is as warm/cold as it was when you picked it up, which can’t be said for the other handhelds currently on the market.

Emulation

The very last thing, and this one is very close to my heart, is emulation!

We have spoken at length about this being a cloud streaming device. That is what the marketing has alllll been about with this, that’s its USP. However, under the hood is a chipset that is capable of playing a whole host of retro video games. Now, you’re not going to be playing demanding consoles and games on this, it simply doesn’t have the firepower. What you can have on it though is a look into the past and play PS1, PSP era and earlier.

I have been revisiting a lot of my favourite games growing up, like Resident Evil 1/2/3, classic football titles like the Pro Evolution Series and of course, who can forget the Pokemon franchise on the Gameboy platforms. All of these games run smooth as butter, without any glitching or frame skipping.

This is something I feel has been completely overlooked by people looking to pick up the system, as of course it has been marketed as an internet connected device - which is understandable. But this device can be used offline with various different emulators and certain Android play store games, because of course with it being an Android device, you have access to 1000’s of play store games, and there are some bangers available! With the ability to keymap buttons to the onscreen touch display, you can pretty much play everything with this device. The G Cloud does have its limitations, as mentioned previously, it uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor, released in the year 2020. That’s 5 years ago, tech moves so quickly that this has the danger of being left behind when it comes to playing modern android games. However, what are the odds you purchased this to play “mobile” games? REALLY slim i imagine.

Conclusion

My final thoughts are this, the device has changed the way I play video games over the last 2 months. The fact that i don’t have to go up to my office and sit away from the family for a quick quest or match when i have a “spare” 30 mins/1 hour and can instead sit in the front room, fire up whatever i want and dip in and out at my leisure whilst my son does a hostile takeover of the front room TV has been a god send. Being able to look at my backlog now and chip away at it is also making my library shake with fear that they’re going to be next on the chopping block, something that I know they have been laughing about and feeling far too comfortable about sitting on my shelf!

Did I pick this up because it was cheaper than the likes of the ROG Ally and Steam Deck? Yes, of course - I'm not made of money. Do I regret my decision in picking this up? Not in the slightest. It has given me so much joy, and hasn’t once let me down since I fired it up for the first time. The Steam Deck that has been sitting in my Steam basket for nearly 2 years now is going to have to remain patient, as I have little to no desire to want to pick one up in the near future. Make of that what you will.
