A bit of a fling
If you’re anything like me, when you were younger (whilst you’re in legal drinking age) you woke up in strange new places with no memory of what, how or why… If you haven’t, then Kinmoku has you covered with the morning after experience.
One Night Stand is described as a visual novel, where you take on the role of a guy who wakes up in someone else’s bed. You get to make decisions throughout the game that impacts on the ending you get; there’s multiple endings so you can play through it several times.
When I played through it, I was mindful it was a game but also the memories of being in both situations (the guest and the host) was very profound. At the same time, I wanted to learn about my host… so awkward, I love it.
Playing it wasn’t taxing, apart from battling your own morals and navigating awkwardly through the interaction. BUT it is repetitive, and each play through is about 15 minutes – depending how abruptly you scarper.
However, the graphics are cuuuuuute and the sensitivity to the situation is reassuring (I mentioned my previous exploits). The understanding of conversations, and the amount of consideration from the creators is humbling.
If you’re looking for an experience, this doesn’t replace the real deal but it is a unique and thought provoking conversation piece. Appropriately, this is a one-night love affair. Maybe the start of a series-ous love affair? Tenuous pun aside, it’s a bit of alright!
